How Traffic Citations Work in Ewa Gentry
Traffic stops in Ewa Gentry are handled by HPD District 8, which covers the Ewa Beach, Kapolei, and Makakilo area. District 8 can be reached at (808) 723-8400. When HPD issues a citation in Ewa Gentry, it will be one of three types: a Notice of Traffic Infraction (NTI) for civil violations, a Criminal Traffic Citation and Arrest (CTCA) for criminal offenses, or a Notice of Parking Infraction (NPI) for parking violations.
NTI citations are the most common type. Under HRS Chapter 291D, you have 21 days from the date on the citation to respond. Your options are to pay the fine, request a no-contest plea at a reduced amount, or ask for a hearing to contest the citation. Not responding within 21 days may result in a default judgment. Older defaults could carry license stoppers that block renewal. Act 59 (2020) ended automatic stoppers for new civil infraction defaults going forward, but old unresolved cases may still have holds attached.
CTCA citations require a court appearance and cannot be paid online. These cover criminal traffic offenses such as DUI, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license. Relevant law is in HRS Chapter 291C. If your citation requires a court appearance, the date is printed on the citation itself. Do not miss it.
Note: Online payment through the eTraffic portal is only available for NTI civil infractions. If you have a CTCA or if your citation says you must appear, you cannot resolve it online.
Searching Ewa Gentry Traffic Records Online
The eCourt Kokua public case search is the main tool for finding Ewa Gentry traffic records online. It covers all First Circuit courts including Ewa-Pearl City District Court. You can search by name, citation number, or case number without logging in. Results show case status, hearings, charges, and dispositions. The service is free and available at any hour. Citations usually appear in the system within a few business days after issuance.
The eTraffic Hawaii portal lets you pay NTI fines or request hearings without visiting the court. You need your citation number and the violation date. Credit card payments carry a $1.50 flat fee plus 2.6% of the fine amount. Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express are accepted. For more background on how these tools work, see the Hawaii Judiciary traffic cases page.
Traffic Abstracts and Driver History Records
A traffic abstract shows your Hawaii driving citation history as recorded by the courts. It costs $20. You can request one in person at the Ewa-Pearl City District Court or by mail. The traffic abstracts page has the full procedure. Include your full name, date of birth, and driver's license number. For complex requests, allow extra time for processing.
The Hawaii Driver History Record (DHR) from HIDOT costs $9 and reflects the state's licensing database. It is different from the court abstract and covers license status, restrictions, and point totals. Get it from the HIDOT Motor Vehicle Safety Office. Insurance companies and some employers will specifically ask for the DHR, not the court abstract, so check which document is required before ordering. Certified court copies cost $1.00 for the first page and $0.50 per page after. Use the Oahu court records request page for mailed document requests.
HPD District 8 Police Records

Public Records and Legal Resources
Hawaii's Uniform Information Practices Act at HRS Chapter 92F gives the public the right to request and inspect government records. Forms for written UIPA requests are at the OIP forms page. Government agencies must respond within 10 business days. If a request is denied, you can file a complaint with the Office of Information Practices.
If you have old unpaid infractions with stoppers blocking your license renewal, Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii provides free or low-cost legal help for qualifying individuals. They handle stopper removal cases across Oahu including Ewa Gentry. Court self-help forms for addressing traffic matters are at the Hawaii Judiciary forms page. Understanding HRS 291D (infraction process) and HRS 291C (vehicle code) is the starting point for any traffic case in Ewa Gentry.
